Interesting - yes, I would agree that people feel entitled to things because they followed the rules. I guess I'd say, I still think my stalker didn't live up to society's expectations in that - if he had a job, or a wife and kids, I don't think he'd be interested in stalking me.

However, I'd also agree that - yes - he does think he's "followed the rules." He thinks he's been romantic, that he's done the things society told him would win him a woman - including being persistent (in his mind) romantic comedy style. (Of course, in my mind, it's more like horror movie style.)

So, perhaps I'd amend it to be - a perception that one has followed the rules of society, yet not reaped the rewards society promised for following said rules. I still think not living up to societal expectations is part of it, but you've convinced me that there's a second component - which is, you think you've done the work society told you would come with this work.
